Commissioning of works 18.02.2024

Floy Krouchi sees the FKbass as an instrument in which technology is used as a poetic - almost magical - phenomenon, revealing the inaudible.
Opening up vast spaces, FKBass Solo I is the first solo piece for the repertoire of this new hybrid contemporary instrument.
FKBassSolo I was commissioned by Paysages Humains.

Floy Krouchi is a sound artist, bassist and electroacoustic composer who questions sound matter from the perspective of her instrument, the bass. Fascinated by microtonality, depth and the meditative capacity of sound, she draws inspiration from Indian music and the Rudra Veena (a traditional Hindustani instrument) to explore the potential of the electronically augmented hybrid bass she has designed: the FKBass .
She explores the timbral possibilities of the augmented bass, transpositions, electronic holograms and the pure electricity of the instrument, and investigates the link between instrumental gesture and electronic control.

Floy Krouchi profoundly renews the countless possibilities of her instrument in an artistic approach that is as sincere as it is fascinating. With video artist Ursula Scherrer, she offers an immersive experience at the heart of electro-acoustic and visual vibrations, encountering their textures.
In this piece, conceived as an "electronic raga", she offers us a contemplative experience, on the borders of ambient, noise, real-time and electroacoustic music.

"The Rudra veena, used for meditation and microtones par excellence in the Dhrupad style, is said to have metaphysical and magical properties and to have all the sounds of the Universe heard in it since its creation."

A piece linking a work close to that of Giorgy Ligeti or Eliane Radigue to the practice and tradition of Indian "raga".

The world premiere of FKBass Solo I took place at the Musique action-CCAM Vandoeuvres-les nancy festival, then was performed again at the Just Listen festival in partnership with the Gmem-CNCM in Marseille and as part of Work in process, at Le Periscope with the Grame-CNCM in Lyon.
Floy Krouchi has continued to develop the FKBass project as an associate artist at Césaré - CNCM in Reims from 2021 to 2023.
