Mixtur was born in Barcelona out of a desire to promote the creation, teaching and dissemination of music and sound art, and their interaction with other artistic disciplines. Paysages Humains has been a partner, co-commissioning the event every year since 2021. The next edition will take place from October 10 to 20, 2024.

Established in 2012, the Mixtur festival has set itself the mission of bringing new music closer to the public by establishing a meeting point between, on the one hand, musicians and other artists whose work is focused on research and, on the other hand, the public, whether it is an audience specialized in contemporary music or not.

" We are looking for artists who consider risk as an inherent part of their activity. We think it's important to offer the public the opportunity to discover their work and provide a space for dialogue so they can discuss it."

One of the main activities of the Mixtur Festival is to encourage education: "from our point of view, pedagogy is fundamental to bring new aesthetics closer to the public, not only for non-musicians but also for musicians who do not have the opportunity to approach them."

Each year, Mixtur organizes a composition and sound experimentation workshop led by internationally renowned composers.
This year, 2024, Mixtur will welcome : Ariadna Alsina, Alberto Bernal, Agustín Charles Soler, Chaya Czernowin, Irene Galindo Quero, Michael Jarrell, Pierre Jodlowski, Luis Naon, Alberto Posadas, Alexander Schubert.

Another of Mixtur's aims is to encourage the creation of new works by commissioning both renowned artists and young artists who, having completed their training, are at the start of their careers. 

After co-commissioning José Rio-Pareja in 2021 and Raquel García-Tomás in 2022, we are delighted to welcome back the Mixtur festival and its two co-directors, Oliver Rappaport and Oriol Saladrigues, in 2024.

This year's program features two new works: on October 11, a piece byAriadna Alsina with the Frenchensemble Sillages at the Palau de la Musica, and on October 12, a piece by Isandro Ojeda Garcia performed by the Austrian Black Page Orchestra at the Fabra I Coats.

Last but not least, an important aspect of this festival is to discover new artistic trends : the Mixtur call for projects represents (also for the festival organizers!) "a way of discovering what's going on in terms of music and sound art in other parts of the world, particularly among the new generations, and this allows us not to retreat into what we already know but to broaden our vision and that of the public."
