Ariadna Alsina Tarrés

After studying in Barcelona, Catalan composer Ariadna Alsina Tarrés continued her training in Paris from 2009, notably at Ircam, then at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève in 2016, where she was hired as an assistant in the composition department. In December 2021, Ariadna Alsina defends a thesis at the University of Paris 8, under the direction of Makis Solomos and Alain Bonardi, on the writing of time in mixed music. And in 2023, she begins a close collaboration with the ensemble Sillages, which will give rise to the portrait entitled Instants fragiles, with the support of the Mixtur festival and Paysages Humains.

Ariadna Alsina Tarrés studied violin at the Conservatorio Superior Liceo de Barcelona and sonology at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), where she turned to composition, studying with Luis Naón and Gabriel Brnčic. In Paris, she studied composition with José Manuel López López, Horacio Vaggione, Christine Groult, Hèctor Parra (2011) and Martin Matalon (2012-2015). In 2015-16, she attended Ircam's Cursus de composition and in parallel joined the Master in Mixed Music Composition at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where she studied with Pascal Dusapin, Luis Naón, Eric Daubresse and Michael Jarrell. She has attended masterclasses with Kaija Saariaho, Franck Bedrossian, Marco Stroppa, Philippe Manoury, Francesco Filidei, Luca Francesconi and Daniel Teruggi, among others.

She is developing her activity as a composer with instrumental, mixed and electroacoustic music and interdisciplinary projects. Influenced by the theoretical framework of spectromorphology, her compositions focus on the malleability and transformation of sound matter, and on research into timbre.

Her music has been performed by Ensemble Sillages, Ensemble Diagonal, OCG, Many many Oboes, Trio KDM, Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, Gavarnie Ensemble and at festivals such as Forum Wallis, Manifeste, Electrocution, Festival Ensemble(s), Archipel, Multiphonies-GRM, among others. She has received commissions from Ircam, Festival Lavaux Classic, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and Radio France. She received a special mention from the Jury of the Luigi Russolo Prize for her composition Dis-Till-Actionpublished on the Prix Russolo 2015 CD.

She has received support from the Bourse Phonos de Barcelone, the Conseil National des Arts de la Catalogne and a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris. Since the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, she has been an assistant in the composition class at the HEM in Geneva.

Ariadna Alsina Tarrés directs with Emmanuelle Lizère, Le son au bout des doigtsmusical design for three interactive installations for young audiences presented at the Centre Pompidou in June 2017 as part of the ManiFeste Festival.

"Des mots, des murs...", a three-part work woven into theInstants fragiles - Portrait d'Ariadna Alsina program, was co-commissioned by the ensemble Sillages, the Mixtur festival and Paysages Humains, and is supported by the Aide à l'écriture d'œuvre musicale originale of the Ministère de la culture - DRAC Bretagne.


The French premiere ofInstants fragile - Portrait d'Ariadna Alsina took place on September 21, 2024 in Paris as part of the Festival ensemble(s).

The Spanish premiere will take place at the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona on October 11, 2024 at the Palau de la Musica.
